Josh Rock recently made the switch from darts manufacturer Mission Darts to Target Darts and the 23-year-old Northern Irishman starts the new year with lofty ambitions. He definitely wants a first major title and even dares to compete with new stablemate Luke Littler.
Rock has had a shaky 2024. He may have won two Players Championships and the Dutch Darts Championship, but he did not secure a real breakthrough at the majors. That's a working point for 'Rocky', who has his sights firmly set on the major tournaments this year. "Hopefully I’ll win a major - or get to the final of a major so I will have had the experience of being in a major final," Rock tells the Daily Star. "I would love a Sky Sports major, but I’m not going to be picky - and if I get a major I’ll be happy either way."
By the way, Rock is not lacking in confidence, setting out clearly his intentions to compete with the aforementioned Littler. "I can compete with Littler right now," he insists fiercely. "I can compete with anybody, and I’ve proved it!"
Rock and Littler are often compared, although the latter is six years younger. But Rock doesn't expect the pair to have a long-standing rivalry. "It’s not as much a rivalry, they don’t happen these days. The standard is so high there are going to be lots of different games!" Rock explains.
As mentioned, the 23-year-old Northern Irishman recently made the switch to Target Darts after three years with Mission Darts. "It wasn’t a hard decision," he admits. "When I was young lad I wanted to be part of Team Target, because I threw Target darts, used their flights and stems and I always wore their shirts. I always said I wanted to be part of Team Target - and when they came calling it was hard to say no!"
Rock can test his new arrows a first time next week at the Winmau World Masters, the first PDC major of the new season.
