Mike De Decker has narrowly secured his place in the second round of the Belgian Darts Open. 'The Real Deal' survived match darts against Thomas Lovely in the opening round, eventually emerging victorious with a 6-5 win. Now, he faces Luke Humphries.
De Decker, who has recently switched dart suppliers, is still struggling with confidence in his new darts. "The confidence isn’t there, and you can see that on stage," he told Het Nieuwsblad in his post-match interview. "In practice, things go well at times, but when it comes to playing a match… I don’t know what it is, but something just doesn’t click. You try not to focus on it, but it’s hard not to think about it."

"When I do my walk-on, which actually gave me goosebumps, the only thing going through my mind is: ‘Please, throw a good match.’ Yeah, that’s not ideal," he continues. "Up until the World Championship, I had the mindset of: ‘I’m going to win this.’ I don’t have that right now. That needs to change, and I hope it comes soon. Maybe it’s just a switch I need to flip? Well, if you know where that switch is, feel free to press it! (laughs)."
The support for De Decker in the Oktoberhalle in Wieze was certainly overwhelming, with the crowd firmly behind him. "Goosebumps. I hope this can last for a long time. But I’d like to throw better, otherwise, I won’t get far," he reflects.
"So, now against Humphries? Before the match, I said that if I face him, I’ll ask him to play double in/double out, the format from our World Grand Prix final. And I mean it, I’ll ask him that (laughs). But seriously, I’m going into this match much more relaxed because I’m the underdog. That’s a status that suits me," De Decker concludes.
Here's the moment that sent the home crowd wild in Wieze! 😍
