"I’ll probably need to win the World Championship to get in": Beau Greaves laughs off Premier League Darts chatter after ProTour triumph

Beau Greaves has said she will need to win the World Darts Championship realistically to be in contention to seal a Premier League Darts spot as she did the media rounds following her epic Players Championship 11 title win.

Greaves who won on Monday did better than others as she also went on talkSPORT with White and Jordan and was asked if she could beat Luke Littler, a player who she has already beaten before including en route to the World Youth Final. But on Sky, it was more about pressure in a male-dominated sport and also the potential of getting into the darting roadshow every Thursday and making history in that case as the first full time female player in that field with Fallon Sherrock playing as a Contender previously.

Greaves has opened up before about not believing she could challenge the top names but speaking to Sky Sports, she said that the pressure is still there of challenging men as the only woman but that she is trying to do so while flying the flag for young girls everywhere. "Yeah, in a way. I’ve always tried to just concentrate on myself, but it definitely comes into it. Obviously Fallon had her time with the men, winning games and stuff, and now I’ve kind of come along and I’m trying to do that as well," said Greaves on Sky Sports News.

"I’m trying to fly the flag for young girls out there, and I probably feel more pressure in that way. I just want to be successful and give young girls someone to look up to, along with some of the other women playing. But I don’t feel too much pressure. I just try to play my game and enjoy everything I play in."

But while she won't be getting too carried away and Greaves is often cool as a cucumber anyway, the idea of Premier League was also floated to the Doncaster darter and she said that in her view she'd need to win the World Championship to be considered. Of course for Greaves as a result, it is not something that has relatively cross her mind and she said she is just going to enjoy the moment itself without any other preconceived notions and that she will get back to practicing to see where she could in fact end up.

Calm and collected, it is all about not thinking too much about anything and just enjoying darts for the 22-year-old who beat Cross, Anderson and Michael Smith en route to scooping the title on Monday. Many expected her tow in the first title this year but not many did so this soon and she has not even qualified for a European Tour yet which perhaps makes this whole feat even more remarkable.

But instead of Premier League, it is practice and getting herself better while ignoring the noise that perhaps comes with a brilliant history making win like this. "I’ll probably need to win the World Championship to get in the Premier League, but I don’t know, I haven’t really thought ahead. I never thought I’d win my first ranking title now, never mind ever, so yeah, I’m just going to enjoy the moment. I’ll get back to practising and keep working hard, and then you never know—if I keep going the way I am, you never know where I might end up. But yeah, I’m not going to think too much about anything. I’ll just carry on playing my darts and enjoying my life."
