"I'm going to take that high average with me" - Dimitri Van den Bergh not too downhearted despite first round loss at Dutch Darts Masters

Dimitri Van den Bergh failed to retain his title at the Dutch Darts Masters this weekend.

The 29-year-old Belgian, who won the tournament last year, went down 6-3 against Gerwyn Price in the first round this year. Still, Van den Bergh performed far from poorly, averaging over 102 (versus Price's 103.43).

"Did I throw above 100 average?" a surprised Van den Bergh responded afterwards. "Then I achieved my goal for today. I gave everything, so this is positive. It wasn't perfect enough to win, especially in the second leg I missed some chances. Price was better again, shame though. But I'm satisfied with my level."

Van den Bergh also threw five 180s. "I'm happy to play matches again. It felt like new love (laughs), which is every first match of the year. And I'm going to take that high average with me. Then you know you can still make a lot of pots."
