After nine of the sixteen nights in the Premier League Darts regular season, Luke Littler is in a strong position to qualify for the play-offs. 'The Nuke' currently sits on 26 points—already 14 clear of fifth-placed Rob Cross. Only the top four after sixteen nights advance to the play-offs at London’s O2 Arena.
Littler currently leads the standings, holding a six-point advantage over second-placed Luke Humphries. Gerwyn Price sits third, eleven points behind, while Michael van Gerwen rounds out the top four, trailing Littler by thirteen points.
"I'm not surprised. It's frightening what the lad can do," said Mark Webster, himself a former Premier League Darts participant for Sky Sports. "The gap is just getting bigger and he looks super relaxed!"
The 18-year-old Englishman has already won four playing days this Premier League Darts, further highlighting his dominance. "I'm expecting every player to be competing to their best," Littler says of his rivals. "We're halfway there now and it's starting to get tight for the other players. I want to say I'm at the O2, but obviously, I'm trying to go for the number one spot again and I'm trying to break the nightly win record."
Still, Webster expects it could be pretty exciting who, besides the seemingly certain Littler and Humphries, will clinch the remaining spots in the playoffs. "The only risk to Luke now is himself. His points will get him to the O2, but will complacency creep in? Michael van Gerwen has mentioned it in the past," analyses the Welshman. "It's going to be nervy for the rest. I expect Van Gerwen to get there, but I like the look of Rob Cross as well. He's solid, he just gets on with it. Gerwyn Price, despite those nightly wins, hasn't managed to pull away so look, it's going to be a race for that top 4!"
