Léano Vanneste (2) from Zwevegem, Belgium, appears to be a huge hit on TikTok. One of the videos showing little Léano playing darts has already been viewed 52 million times.
"The sport kind of rolled into our house by accident,"
so notes De Telegraaf from the mouth of Léano's father Jelle Vanneste. ''My father-in-law was already playing darts. And when I was home more because of Léano's birth, I started playing it too."
Jelle's hobby eventually spread to his very young son. ''About a year ago, my in-laws returned from vacation from Spain. They had bought Léano a metal dartboard with arrows with magnets. I never pushed him, but when he saw the sport on television, he started trying it himself."
At first, Léano hit everything but the dartboard itself. ''To everything the magnets stuck to: the refrigerator, the dishwasher, but gradually he learned that he should only throw at his board."
But meanwhile, the little toddler, in a beautiful darting position, smoothly throws the darts toward the dartboard. ''He plays every day. But especially the days when there are matches on television. Then he really imitates those pros. He picks the same stance. He lifts his left heel a little bit and throws with concentration. Not the way I throw, he takes his inspiration from the pros."
Companies are trying to take advantage of Léano's popularity and are lining up to sponsor things. ''There are already offers as well,'' says father Jelle. ''Clothing brands that want him to wear their collection, there was already a proposal from a darts brand and even a bike brand. But I've never accepted. Above all, I want Léano to have fun. If that is no longer the case, then there is no need. People tell me to encourage him, but I shy away from that. If he's still talented in ten years, we'll see. And if not, he can go play football."
