Nathan Aspinall won the 10th night of the Premier League Darts in Manchester last Thursday by defeating Luke Humphries 6-4 in the final.

It must have been gratifying for the 33-year-old Englishman, who has been through a difficult period plagued by injury and dartitis. Aspinall realizes that a lot of people have to deal with dartitis and therefore wants to act as a role model who talks openly about his problems and to whom people can turn for the necessary help.

His wrist problems are quietly behind him, but Aspinall admits he does still struggle with a form of dartitis. "The amount of messages I get off people messaging me about dartitis and about the mental side of the game.

"I am an ambassador for an youth academy and also of a disabilitty darts league in Stockport. I try and give as much back. I've learned a lot in this game. I've been fortunate to be with Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis. Gary Anderson who I'm really close to. The best players who have ever thrown a dart in this game. They're the creme de la creme."

"I've been fortunate to get advice off those people and I try and give as much back as I can. I'm not going to be around here for long."

But while he is suffering with this as an adult, he says that it breaks his heart and wants to be a role model for those who cannot find their way out.

"I see these kids in my academy at the moment like oh my god ridiculous. There's a lot of people when I do an exhibition and I do a meet and greet. 50% of those go I know someone who has got dartitis, can you help them out. You know the sad thing is there are so many kids out there that have got it. It breaks my heart knowing what I'm going through as a grown adult."

"Theirs is different. They can't be stressed about paying the mortgage. I want them to enjoy it but I try and help as many people as i can."

"I'm a big advocate of mental health. I feel like I'm being a bit of a role model and I'm proud of that."
