From Joe Cullen easing past Damon Heta to Michael van Gerwen needing to work harder than expected to finally Michael Smith having to produce an incredible comeback to see off Martin Schindler, it was one to remember at the PDC
World Darts Championship.
This sentiment was echoed by
Wayne Mardle who looked through the evening with presenter Anna Woolhouse.
"It's one of the best nights that I can remember. Joe Cullen was magnificent from start to finish, I didn't expect the 4-0 scoreline. The next game, Michael van Gerwen and Mensur Suljovic, I didn't expect the scoreline," said Mardle on Sky Sports.
"It was amazing from both players point of view. Van Gerwen was going into the final set averaging 110 and Mensur hasn't played that well since the Matchplay final."
"The last game, Martin Schindler has never played that well on the World Championship stage. It was a night of firsts."
It was even more so with it not going the way it was expected to go.
"It was impossible. If anyone has picked that out, you know more than any of us but the winners tonight have worked so hard. Every single leg of every single set."
