Last weekend the first edition of the Flanders Darts Trophy took place in Antwerp. Big absentee at this tournament was Kim Huybrechts.
Huybrechts, born and raised in Antwerp, did not manage to qualify for this European Tour tournament. "A tournament in your own country, you definitely want to be there, especially in your hometown," Huybrechts said to the 'Double Top' podcast. "Of course I am very sad about it, on the other hand it also gives me a lot of motivation to be there next year."
Huybrechts was also recently active at the European Softtip Championship. "It was a very long and busy tournament, seven days of almost always throwing from morning to night very late doesn't get into your cold clothes. But it was a great success! I won the EK Koppel alongside José Justicia and the Mix Koppel with my wife Dana Verhaegen. In the Triple Mix I made it to the final, only in the singles I went out quickly against Boris Krcmar."
"Softtip does remain a smaller event, even the World Cup doesn't get very big in the news," continued 'The Hurricane'. "There was a livestream, but obviously PDC players were not allowed to be in action on that."
Huybrechts is ready for the busy autumn, where the stakes are high for him. "It is indeed five to twelve for me to perform. However, I am well prepared and training very hard to be ready. I will do everything I can to still make it to the World Darts Championship and also hope to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals."
