"It's hard doing something you don't want to do": Anderson honest on previous oche struggles after Van den Bergh win

Gary Anderson is through to the second round at the 2023 Masters. 'The Flying Scotsman' saw off Dimitri van den Bergh 6-4 in his opening game.

Anderson wasn't satisfied post match but mainly due to his practice these past weeks.

"Not as good as I wanted it to go. I've been putting in so much practice with Ryan (Searle) and I have been playing really well and for me to say that is something else. Doubles tonight, a bit shaky. But it's been going well in practice," said Anderson to Online Darts.

"I've been hitting every finish you could leave me. So a bit annoyed it's not been going up there but new year, fresh start. Lot to learn again.

Dropping to 22nd in the Order of Merit, Anderson was honest on his oche struggles and giving it another go.

"It's hard to do something you don't want to do. The boss has been on at me, Ryan even says if you play like this in practice, if you do it on stage you're back to normal. I have played darts a long time and it is in my blood so might as well bite the bullet and get back to the board."

He even hinted at playing more than he usually plays including the European Tour.

"Maybe a bit more than I'm usually in."

"What up to Scotland. Don't put me off I'm just starting to enjoy it again," he said with a smile when asked if that involves a plane.

"The only problem is if a top four player gets beat by a 22 seed, it doesn't look good on their resume. But main thing is I'm back enjoying playing darts and what will happen will happen."
