James Wade was clinical as he saw off Callan Rydz 6-2 to begin the 2023 Masters in Milton Keynes.
Wade speaking afterwards referenced to his recent change of practice routine and how he wants to now do damage.
"I've been practicing for the first time in 16 years. I've said loads of times that I've practiced but I'm full of rubbish, full of lies. I normally think I'm going to practice and then I do it for 45 minutes to an hour for a day, I do 3 or 4 days," said Wade post match.
"But this time I've been a bit serious and a bit different. In the next 24 months I want to smack a few of their bottoms because a few of them have given me a lesson and they aren't good enough to give me lessons."
He admits he has been given a wake-up call including in losing to Jim Williams at the World Championship and now wants to put it right.
"It's a big accumulation of the wrong answers. I shouldn't beat anyone but I shouldn't lose consistently to certain players. I've done that for a long time and that's my fault as I've been lazy and people around me have been working harder."
