It was a clinical opener for
Rob Cross at the 2024
US Darts Masters with the former World Champion breezing past Adam Sevada to reach the Quarter-Finals in New York.
Whilst never having seen Sevada play, he had heard good things from people backstage about him and in his 6-1 win despite having a broken foot, he was pleased to get past a classy operator on paper.
"Darts are a little bit easy, not so easy on my foot at the minute. But apart from that, everything is good," said Cross to Online Darts after his 6-1 win over the qualifier.
"You always hear off people and you speak to people and I don't know a lot about Adam coming into the weekend. But I heard he's a fantastic player and averages 100 on the floor and credit to him if he's doing that. He's a top quality player. I think for us as the professionals who do it week in, week out, you have to be clinical. If you don't, you get bit for one dart no mind three."
Last year, he capitulated against Michael van Gerwen. He will get the chance to put it right this time around and said that it is his aim. "I think I was 6-4 and couldn't find a leg. It's the story of my life sometimes against that man. It would be nice to get one back."
"The way I treat the darts is one game at a time. I've tried all that before (looking at the draw) and I've fell flat on my face and I think to myself right, it's all mapped out I've got a lovely draw until the last eight. All of a sudden you're out first round and you think well maybe I shouldn't have overlooked that."
