"I've beat the two best performers on the PDC floor this year" - Brendan Dolan continues giant-killing with victory over Gary Anderson to reach last 8 at the Alexandra Palace

Brendan Dolan has backed up his victory over Gerwyn Price by ending Gary Anderson's hopes of a third world title on Saturday night. After a cracker, Dolan finally overcame the two-time world champion 4-3 in sets.

The Northern Irishman spoke highly of his Scottish opponent afterwards. ''I'm over the moon you know. I hold Gary in such high esteem, even throwing for the bull tonight I felt so anxious because it was Gary Anderson and there are not many people that I have to play that do that to me. I just think so much of Gary and it's great to get a win against him."

After flying out the traps and taking the first two sets, Dolan was soon 3-2 down as a resurgent Anderson rallied. Despite this, Dolan recovered and took control of the tie once again to edge the match in the seventh and final set.

The win over Anderson comes just two days after he also knocked Gerwyn Price out of the tournament. "I think I've beat the two best performers on the PDC floor this year and that in itself is a massive achievement. But at the same time, there's so much more to be done. You can't just expect to walk in and breeze through the next game."

In the quarter-final, Dolan has the unenviable task of facing the sensational 16-year-old Luke Littler after 'the Nuke' wiped the floor with Raymond van Barneveld 4-1 on Saturday night with an average of over 105.
