Luke Littler showed extreme humility on Saturday night after moments earlier beating his great childhood idol Raymond van Barneveld 4-1 in sets in the fourth round of the World Darts Championship.
The 16-year-old super-talent said afterwards that he had enjoyed Van Barneveld's legendary pre-match turnout immensely. "It was unbelievable," Littler said during his press conference. "With his walk-on, I was totally into it, but as soon as the music stopped, it was all about me and my darts and I was focused. I won against this guy on the biggest stage imaginable."
Littler was born 20 days after Van Barneveld became world champion for the fifth time. 'The Nuke' quickly proved to be a huge fan of 'Barney'. "Thirteen years ago, in front of my little (dart) board, I copied his celebrations. This is the biggest win of my life," Littler concluded.
