After doing the double Down Under last year,
Luke Littler
has confirmed that he will not be competing in the New Zealand Darts Masters
and Australian Darts Masters as he chooses a to take a month off and head to Walt
Disney World Resort.
With the darts schedule being very packed, time management
for the top players is very crucial. While only having played two European Tour
events and zero Players Championship tournaments, Littler has still played a
lot of darts in 2026.
He began the year by becoming a two-time world champion. He
has since followed up with the Winmau World Masters, UK Open, World Cup of Darts
and Premier League Darts titles.
On top of that, Littler is competing in a fourth World
Series of Darts event currently in New York. Following the Bahrain Darts
Masters, Saudi Darts Masters and Nordic Darts Masters, he is competing in the
US Darts Masters with a quarter-final against Jim Long lined up after winning his
opening tie 6-4 against David Cameron.
Littler taking August off as World Series events pushed to one side
Two more World Series events will be played out in August in
Auckland and Wollongong. Littler has competed the double header in 2024 and 2025
but has confirmed his decision not to make the trip this time around.
Littler stated that he
annually takes around 30-40 flights just to keep up with the manic darts
schedule. He told the Ariel Helwani show: “After my first full year on the
tour, I was like, this is crazy, the (number of) flights.
“When we go to Germany and stuff, we have to get like two
flights just to get to one place. But now obviously where I am in the rankings,
number one, that’s why I’m missing tournaments and having more time at home.”
Luke Littler is going for glory at the US Darts Masters 2026
With that on his mind, time away from the oche is the
priority. “Well this year I’ve decided not to go to Australia and New Zealand.
That’s in August, the second and third week,” he said. “So, it’s probably 16
days in Australia and New Zealand. The time zone over there is mental. 10
hours, maybe 12 hours.”
With a full month off, Littler is set to embark on a trip to
Disney World. “So I’m not going there. I’ve got the whole of August off for the
first time. So we’re gonna go to Orlando. I’ve been to Orlando three times
now.”
Littler was supreme Down Under last year. While not at his
scintillating best in Australia, he did manage to clinch his third World Series
title with an 8-4 win over debutant Mike De Decker. This was followed by averaging
108.81 against Gerwyn Price in the semi-final in New Zealand before smashing a
stunned Luke Humphries
8-4 with an outrageous 115.02 average.
This was the ultimate preparation for the string of major
tournaments held at the back end of the year. He will be the favourite heading
into the
World Series of Darts Finals, World Grand Prix, European Championship,
Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals. It will then be
culminated with the PDC World Darts Championship. A busy time period, calling
for a touch of schedule management.
