Mike de Decker edged past Damon Heta in a thrilling encounter prevailing in a last leg win at the
World Grand Prix. But it was more relief than anything else.
De Decker as he noted was just happy to win in a major for the first time in a while after previously qualifying but not making count chances at the World Grand Prix and World Matchplay among others.
"It's about time, I start getting the run on majors. Last year I was in the Matchplay and the World Grand Prix also and lost in the first round in both. So I'm really really happy even if it's just for one game I'm really happy to get over the line and win this one," said De Decker.
"I'm taking the game more professionally. Going to bed in time, practice a bit more. Start to live a bit healthier than I did before and it's working out."
But the next goal is definitely the World Cup of Darts despite it being a year away. He has often spoken about his want to play in the tournament and will head towards making that a reality.
"I'm not really thinking about all the things around me. I just want to play my game, win as many games as I can and climb the rankings."
"I've jumped over Kim a few weeks after the World Cup so hopefully I can stay there as the World Cup is one main goal that I have myself for the last two years."
