Dave Chisnall made an excellent start to his 2024 World Grand Prix campaign on Tuesday night. In the opening round, he was a clear 2-0 winner over Cameron Menzies.
Afterwards, we saw Chisnall with a big smile on his face. "I'm over the moon! I didn't want to go out in the first round again so yeah, I'm very happy," 'Chizzy' assessed in his post-match press conference. "I played decent but my doubles were going in and that's the main thing."

Chisnall has previously reached the final at the World Grand Prix on two occasions in 2013 and 2019, last year though, he somewhat surprisingly went down in the first round against Luke Woodhouse. "I don't really think about that, I'm not one of those," Chisnall says however. "I just turn up and play. And like I said, scoring was good, doubling was good, I got through tonight with ease."
The 44-year-old Englishman has already won two tournaments on the European Tour this year as well as a pair of Players Championships events. As such, he heads to Leicester as one of the players who were touted in advance as a potential contender for final victory at the World Grand Prix. Chisnall has already played six major finals in his career, but lost them all. Now though, thanks to the early exits of the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Peter Wright and Luke Littler, could the stars be aligning for Chisnall? "I won't stop until I get one (a major title)," he says, full of determination. "I'm playing well but there's still a lot more to come."
Chisnall will take on Dimitri Van den Bergh in the second round, who was 2-1 too strong for Luke Woodhouse in the opening round.
