Jamai van den Herik won a tournament on the PDC
Development Tour on Sunday for the second time this season. The Dutchman took the title at Event 23, and may even dream of World Cup participation with one tournament to go.
Van den Herik had to play as many as nine games en route to the title. He successively defeated Tom Garfield (4-0), Luis Kirschenlohr (4-2), Patrik Williams (4-3), Mitchell Leeming (4-3), Jeffrey Keen (4-2), Mark Tabak (4-0), Nunjo Dewaele (5-3), Rohan Brouwers (5-2) and Cayden Smith (5-4).
The Development Tour is the youth circuit of the PDC. This tour is open to players ages 16 through 23. Players who turn 24 during the season may continue to compete.
At each Development Tour tournament there is a prize pool of 15,000 pounds to be divided. With the prize money, a ranking is established. At the end of the season, the numbers one, two and three receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship, while the numbers one and two also receive a Tour Card for 2026 and 2027. The ranking winner also gets to compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
Numbers one and three, Cam Crabtree and Owen Bates have virtually qualified for the PDC World Darts Championship via the Pro Tour, meaning that with the current state of play, the World Cup spots will be given to numbers two, four and five. Those spots are now held by Beau Greaves, Charlie Manby and Jamai van den Herik. Number six Jurjen van der Velde is the first pursuer. He is 500 pounds behind Van den Herik and 525 pounds behind Manby, and thus needs to make up that deficit at the final tournament to qualify for the World Championship.
The final Development Tour tournament of the season will be played later Sunday. Cam Crabtree has already secured first place and thus may compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
