Dominik Gruellich beats Beau Greaves as WDF World Champion forced to wait in Tour Card bid at Development Tour

Dominik Gruellich has crowned himself the winner of the 21st Development Tour tournament. The German was narrowly too strong for Beau Greaves in the final, 5-4, winning his second Development Tour title of the year.

The 23-year-old German reached the last 256 and easily beat Charlie Large 4-1. In the next round he also defeated Ben Townley 4-2. In the last 64 he beat Ronan McDonagh 4-1 and averaged over 105. He went on to defeat JJ Wright (4-1) and Tyler Thorpe (4-3) before surprisingly beating Charlie Manby 5-1 in the quarterfinals. Finally, he defeated Latvian Ralfs Laumanis 5-3 in the semifinals to secure a place in the final.

Greaves, in turn, was able to deal with Jamie Meredith (4-2), Martin Homola (4-0), Keenan Thomas (4-2), Jannis Barkhausen (4-1), Rohan Brouwers (4-1), Davey Cole (5-2) and Owen Bates (5-4) in succession to reach the final.

In that final, it remained exciting until the last leg. Greaves led 1-0, but then saw Gruellich make it 2-1 via a 13-darter and an 18-darter. However, it was then again "Beau 'n' Arrow" who took two legs in a row to regain the lead. The German then did the same, leading 4-3 and needing just one more leg. However, Greaves managed to force a deciding leg via a fine 12-darter. It was Gruellich who secured his second Development Tour title with a 21-darter.

With this, the German has moved up to spot No. 6 on the Players Championship Order of Merit, which still keeps him in contention for a ticket to the World Darts Championship in this final Development Tour weekend. At the end of the season, the top two ranked players on the Development Tour earn a coveted Tour Card for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. In addition, the top three in the standings will ensure participation in the prestigious World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace.
