James Wade puts 'Fartgate' behind him with clinical Players Championship 19 triumph over Scott Williams

James Wade hit the headlines this past day for farting on stream in front of Peter Wright but he has put that behind him and let the darts do the talking as he saw off Scott Williams in the final of Players Championship 19.
It is a first title in three years for Wade who last won on the Players Championship series in 2022. 'The Machine' now moves up to World No.8 in the live Order of Merit and has to be fancied going into the run in towards the World Matchplay.
Always a player who continues to crop up with some semblance of form at some point or another, the Aldershot ace was sublime in the final in particular against Williams who couldn't seal a first title in a few years.
Wade opened up with a hold of throw on double 20. Williams missed 128 on the bull for 1-1. Wade was looking at 161 but could only set up 56.
Williams pinned double eight for a perfect response at 1-1. Williams missed the bull again this time for a break. Wade himself left the bull off 83 and pinned it for 2-1. Williams missed the bull again this time for 161.
Wade looked at 164 but couldn't get a dart himself. Williams came back as a result for 43. He hit double 16 for 2-2. Wade hit 64 for 3-2 on double 20.
A 110 checkout saw Wade make it 4-2 to break as he surged to the front. A 120 checkout saw Wade hit another ton topper as he made it 5-2.
He went two away at 6-3. Wade hit an 81 checkout to break again and go one away from the victory. Wade pinned 110 and joins Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting into the winners enclosure this week in Leicester.

- Smith has been rubbish since he won the world title. Like he reached the top of the mountain and then gave up. Anyone else would have tried a change of dart, but not Smith, the sponsorship money was more important than success. - There are two players Michael Smith can leapfrog with a semi-final today: as well as Ryan Joyce, he could equal RVB and with the £5k would qualify on the count back rule of money earned in the last four Pro Tour tournaments. Either Ryan or Raymond would have to lose in the first round for a semi to be enough.
