Nine 180's helped the Welshman on his way to victory, a win that means that four of the Order of Merit's top eight have been eliminated from the tournament.
Gurney missed five darts for the first sets, with Lewis taking out D8 to lead 1-0. Three legs later, 'Superchin' found himself 0-2 down in sets as Lewis stormed to winning the second set 3-0.
Last year's semi-finalist then had four set darts to move within a set of the match, but failed to hit any of them. Gurney took his chance and got himself back in the game. It was the Welshman, however, who kept playing the better darts as he took a 3-1 lead in sets.
On the verge of elimination, Gurney produced some magic with a 160-checkout in the first leg of the fifth set. It proved to be somewhat of a turning point as the Northern-Irishman proceeded to win the set 3-0. Set six also went to the winner of the Players Championship Finals, with the match going to a seventh and deciding set.
Gurney also took a 2-0 lead in the decider, but after seeing his opponent level at 2-2 he went on to miss darts at doubles in a crucial fifth leg. 'Rasta' then kept his cool, held his throw, and won the match.
