On Monday night, the draw took place for the upcoming
World Darts Championship.
Jermaine Wattimena will take on
Fallon Sherrock in the opening round.
Wattimena, who'll be making his tenth appearance at Alexandra Palace, was not interested in the draw. "Actually it does not matter who I have to play against, I just go from my own strength and if I reach my level, then I just have to win this match," said the 35-year-old Dutchman who already managed to reach the last 32 three times at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Sherrock made history at the 2020 edition by becoming the first woman ever to win against a man at a World Championship. More so, 'The Queen of the Palace,' not only defeated Ted Evetts in the first round, a round later she was also too strong for Mensur Suljovic. Finally, Sherrock went down 4-2 in the third round against Chris Dobey.
Wattimena showed his good form last weekend by reaching the last sixteen at the Players Championship Finals. After wins against Dirk van Duijvenbode and Richard Veenstra, Wattimena lost 10-7 to Ryan Joyce. "There I showed what I have to offer, so that gives the necessary confidence for the upcoming World Championship," he said.
The winner of the duel between Wattimena and Sherrock will take on 26th-seeded German Martin Schindler in the second round.
