Joe Cullen,
Daryl Gurney and
Dave Chisnall have secured a spot in the third round of the
Austrian Darts Open. They return to the stage on Sunday at the Steiermarkhalle in Graz.
Cullen and Gurney managed to impress by both throwing a 100+ average in their match. Cullen defeated Darius Labanauskas 6-3, notching an average of 102.02. 'The Rockstar' threw an 11-darter, 12-darter and a 170 finish, among others as well as six 180's. A good surge from 'Lucky D' but unlike Johan Engstrom last week, it wasn't a Nordic and Baltic darter that accounted for him this time.
Gurney recorded a handsome victory over former world champion Rob Cross. 'Superchin' lost the first two legs of the match, but still prevailed 6-4. He took out 103 to seal the win. He hit a 100.5 average, four 180's and 6/9 on the outer ring to claim the win. While Chisnall advanced a round by eliminating Brendan Dolan 6-4. The top seed averaged 93.6 and defied a 98.2 average from his opponent as well as a high checkout of 152. Dolan has been in fine fettle as of late, but Chisnall dodged a potential bullet in winning through to the final day especially considering many of the big names aren't present this weekend.
