Ritchie Edhouse has continued his spectacular form averaging 103 in downing Dirk van Duijvenbode once again at the
Austrian Darts Open. 'Madhouse' is playing some of the darts of his life and continues on to the final day winning 6-2.
'Aubergenius' took a 2-1 lead with a 136 finish, but missed three chances later to win the fifth leg. Van Duijvenbode had to watch how Edhouse ran out to a 5-2 lead with an 11-darter, 117 check-out and a 14-darter, among other things. Edhouse then ended the match with a 15-darter.
Stephen Bunting was also in stellar form as he hit two 170 checkouts against Richard Veenstra to seal the win. Veenstra resisted well, but had to give in to Bunting after a deciding leg. In a spectacle match, Van Veen was too strong for Searle, 6-5 restoring Dutch hopes. Possibly the most important arrow of the match was already thrown in the back room. Van Veen won the bull and that proved decisive as all legs went with the darts.
Van Veen opened the match with a 127 finish, before missing one chance at a break in the second leg. Searle equalized with a 90 checkout, then his Dutch opponent made it 2-1 by throwing out 71. Searle in turn threw out 101, but then failed to break Van Veen in the fifth leg.
The 22-year-old darter got away well with a 17-darter and won the seventh leg moments later with a 17-darter as well. Then it became 5-5, necessitating a deciding leg. Van Veen was on 64 after four visits, while Searle left tops. Van Veen got the first chance and he gave himself one matchdart. This ended up in the double 16, making Van Veen face Ritchie Edhouse in the third round on Sunday afternoon.
