Joe Cullen has become the first player to secure a spot in the final match of the 2024
Austrian Darts Open. 'The Rockstar' saw off
Stephen Bunting 7-5 in the first semi-final.
With that, the darter from Bradford again underlined his strong form in Graz. In his three previous matches he had an average of over the 100-mark each time. This time he did not quite reach that level with an average of 98.53, but his game was again very good.
The former Masters champion quickly made up for an early 0-2 deficit against the reigning Masters champion. Thanks to a 15-darter and an 11-darter, the score was level after four legs. Cullen then rushed to a 5-2 lead with a 16-darter, 71 finish and a 13-darter.
After a 64 finish in the ninth leg, Cullen needed just one more leg for a final place. Bunting still closed to 6-5 via a 15-darter and a 14-darter, before Cullen decided the match with a fine 80 finish.
In the final, Cullen will face the winner of the match between Luke Littler and Ross Smith. For 'The Rockstar' it will be his fourth Euro Tour final. A positive omen for Cullen is that he has won all three of his previous Euro Tour finals.
