Jurjen van der Velde captured his second Winmau Development Tour title of the year on Sunday. In Wigan the Dutchman crowned himself winner of Event 20 by defeating Henry Coates 5-2 in the final. For Van der Velde it was the fifth title of his career on the Development Tour, while he also won Event 14 earlier this year.
The Dutchman had few problems along the way. In the fourth round, he dealt with Liam Maendl-Lawrence via a convincing whitewash. He then eliminated compatriot Jeffrey Keen to reach the quarterfinals. There Van der Velde beat Owen Bates, after which he was too strong for Jack Peet in the semifinals. In the final he maintained his form and decided the match with a 5-2 victory over Coates.
Van der Velde, who previously won two titles on the Challenge Tour, climbs to fourth place on the 2025 Winmau Development Tour rankings thanks to this victory. This keeps him in the battle for a coveted PDC Tour Card.
At the end of the season, the top two ranked players on the Development Tour will earn a Tour Card for 2026-2027. In addition, the top three ranked players qualify for the prestigious World Darts Championship. The 2025 Winmau Development Tour has one more tournament weekend. Events 21 through 24 will be completed on Oct. 11 and 12 in Wigan. For Van der Velde, this means an excellent opportunity to definitely bite his way into the top of the rankings and secure his way back to the big stages of the PDC.
