Kim Huybrechts pulled off a huge shock at the
Players Championship Finals on Saturday afternoon by eliminating top seed
Gerwyn Price in the second round.
The Belgian took full advantage of a poor match by Price, who had a finishing percentage of only seven percent at 1/13. Against that, Huybrechts put up a very effective finishing percentage of sixty percent.
Price missed four chances in the first leg to take the lead and Huybrechts hit his first double. With a 15-darter and a 76 finish, "The Hurricane" then ran out to 3-0 after Price missed one more dart on double 20 in the third leg.
Price then got on the scoreboard in the fourth leg, but then followed up with another five misses in the fifth leg. A 20-darter then brought Huybrechts to 4-1, before it became 5-1 with a 15-darter. Huybrechts then finished coolly with an 88 checkout.
With Huybrechts' win, a perfect day for the Belgians in the second round of the Players Championship Finals. Dimitri van den Bergh eliminated Gary Anderson 6-5, while Mario Vandenbogaerde won 6-2 against Matt Campbell. So Saturday night three Belgians will be in action at the last sixteen at this tournament.
