Mervyn King dumped out Gary Anderson on Tuesday night at the World Matchplay in a brilliant performance to move through to the Quarter-Finals.
King spoke afterwards to
LiveDarts and said that before hand he watched Anderson practiced and said he was hitting 130 averages for the whole four hours and that he hasn't seen the like before.
He added though that he took it to Gary and played on his weaknesses and that is why he came through the tie.
'I've known Gary for 20 plus years and I sat and watched him for three to four hours practising and he was hitting 130+ average for the entire time now I'm one of the world's best, even when I was World Number One I couldn't do that.'
'That scared the living crap out of me when I've seen that and he's the only player that's done that to me. Taylor not bothered, Van Gerwen not bothered, Anderson puts the wind out of my sails; seriously that guy can be that good and he scared me.
'That is what Gary does, tonight I took it to him and played on his weaknesses and that is the occassional double. I took my chances so happy days.'
Quarter-Final tie against Michael Smith
King will next face off against Michael Smith and he said that he's a fantastic player that he holds in the same regard as Phil Taylor due to him being able to surge at the end when he is behind.
'Michael's a great guy, I've known Michael a long while; he's a fantastic player but at the end of the day if I come out and sprint away great but you've always got to expect that surge from Michael you used to get from Taylor.'
