Mervyn King and Luke Humphries are through their openers at the 2021 World Grand Prix after a Double Dutch disaster for last year's finalist Dirk van Duijvenbode and Martijn Kleermaker who both head home.

King took through a 3-2, 3-1 win with it being only 3/21 throughout the match for Kleermaker who had a debut which didn't go to plan.

Kleermaker sealed a 16 darter including a 180 after getting off first to break throw and head into the lead but this was soon erased but he took it back on double 10 to make it 2-1 and head towards the first set.

But he missed two set darts in the deciding leg with King sealing it to make it 3-2 and claim the opening set.

King was firmly in control to begin the second set and he doubled his lead after Kleermaker continued to miss doubles and he now had to break to stay involved after claiming a hold.

King missed match darts from an 85 checkout though but Kleermaker's woes continued as he chased round the board and the former claimed it.

While it was a reverse as a 3-2, 3-1 scoreline for Humphries as he made sure there would be no repeat of Van Duijvenbode's escapades for last year.

Similar to Kleermaker, it was only 3/15 for 'The Titan' who struggled throughout not only on double in but double out.

Humphries sealed the opener on double 10 but failed to get off on his throw till the fifth occasion. A 180 and double eight saw Van Duijvenbode wrestle it back and make it 1-1 with the throw to go one away from the opener.

Humphries missed a 49 checkout to break back but returned for double one as the Dutchman's doubling woes continued.

Van Duijvenbode got off on his sixth dart and was way back with Humphries pinning a 70 checkout to seal the opener.

A double nine shot saw Van Duijvenbode even more frustrated as Humphries went one away from victory.

A 96 checkout though from Van Duijvenbode sent the second set into a decider but both struggled to get off on the doubles.

Both pinned 180 but it was Humphries who was first towards a finish and he left double 20 with van Duijvenbode needing 164.

He hit the first dart into treble 20 but summed up his game by drifting into the one. Humphries returned for double 10 to surge through.
