King on Premier League contention after Durrant win: "There are players who deserve a spot more than me"

Mervyn King continued his form from a brilliant 2020 as he eased past an out of sorts Glen Durrant on the opening night of The Masters in a match that he called difficult due to their friendship.

"I didn't play particularly well but then again I didn't have to because Glen (Durrant) was struggling which makes it even harder for me because I like Glen. It wasn't the best of opponents for me because I like him and it's hard to play against someone you really like. When you see them struggling, it's hard to bury the hatchet but we got there," said King post match.

With all eyes on the tenth spot in the Premier League, the question was raised about that final spot and King doesn't see it happening.

"Of course I would but it's not something I've looked at. It doesn't even enter my mind, there are players that are in my mind deserve it a lot before I do. I can't see that happening, there are players who deserve a spot more than me to be fair."

Next up in The Masters is Rob Cross who he said like Durrant is another close friend.

"Another good friend. I love Rob to bits, we had some practice before the World's, I've got a lot of time for Rob. He's a really nice fella. That's going to be another hard game for me."
