Jonny Clayton edged out Jose de Sousa in a deciding leg in their tie on the opening night of The Masters which saw a blockbuster 130 checkout to win it.
Clayton admitted the belief was there and that as long as he won his legs, he would win which he did in the end to set up a tie with Michael van Gerwen next up.
"I was confident from the word of go, I done what I set out to do. I think I missed two darts at doubles and to be fair to Jose, he was still in the game. I just concentrated, if I can just win my legs, the job will get done," said Clayton post match.
On Van Gerwen, Clayton believes the aura is still there and that we will see Mighty Mike return to his best before long.
"Still probably the best player that has ever played darts along with Phil Taylor. Van Gerwen does not just disappear over night. He's going to come back with some serious darts in hand, we're going to see the best of him again."
