King reaches first televised final since 2014 after easing past Wright

Mervyn King is through to his first televised final since 2014 at the Players Championship Finals after victory over an out of sorts Peter Wright.

King will now face Michael van Gerwen or Gerwyn Price after winning through 11-4 with real ease.

Wright was averaging just 67 to begin the tie and King as a result capitalised as he doubled his lead and broke throw to go 3-0 up.

He coasted into a 5-0 lead from there with no reply so far at the first interval from the top seed.

Wright finally got off the mark at the seventh attempt taking out 62 to trail 6-1 but he went further down at 7-1 as Wright's comeback hopes were dented.

At the interval next up, it was an 8-2 lead for King who punished Wright to the hilt with the World Champion averaging just 86.

Wright tried for a late revival but missed six to break throw initially. Despite that though he hit double two with King missing six to go two away.

King missed double eight for a 121 but was given time to break back as Wright had an off leg and double four came to his rescue.

A 171 saw King leave double eight for the match and he obliged to go 10-4 up. A 48 checkout saw King finish it off.
