King recovers from the brink to reach first World Darts Championship Quarter-Final since 2009

Mervyn King is through to his first World Darts Championship Quarter-Final since 2009 after ending the run of Aussie qualifier, Raymond Smith in a 4-3 win.

King recovered from 3-1 down to see off Smith in a 4-3 victory who had a Tour Card on the line if he came through in what was a dream run for the Aussie ace.

King was out of sorts early on and was averaging just 84 as Smith took an early 3-1 lead and was one away from claiming another upset win.

But King swept the fifth set 3-0 to stay alive with a decider in his sights. He did with a 3-1 sets win in the form of a 64 checkout.

He began the final set with a 124 checkout which sealed the fate of Smith as King swept the final set from there to move through to the Quarter-Finals.
