Maik Kuivenhoven will play at the PDC World Darts Championship for the second year in a row. The 33-year-old Dutchman will meet Australian debutant Ky Smith in the first round.
Ky Smith has qualified for the WC just like his father Raymond, making them the first father-son combination to appear together at the WC. "I didn't know him, but I looked up some information the last few days. I saw that he won a major tournament in Australia this year, so he's certainly up to scratch," says Kuivenhoven at RTL 7.
Last year, Kuivenhoven lost in the first round against Matthew Edgar on his World Championship debut. "But then we played without an audience, so I'm really looking forward to playing in a full Alexandra Palace."
Tie with Wade
With a win in his first match, a duel with James Wade awaits Kuivenhoven. "But right now I'm only focusing on my opening match, I don't want to look much further ahead. I'm going to practice really hard in the next few weeks, especially in the evenings, because I still have to work during the day."
