The ninth tournament of the Championship Darts Circuit Tour was won on Saturday by
Leonard Gates. He won his third
CDC title of the season in upstate New York, taking another good step toward qualifying for the World Darts Championship.
Gates won 5-0 over Jeff McDonald in his opening match, before 'The Soulger' needed much effort to deal with Stephen Krikorian (5-4). That was followed by easy wins over Keith Way (6-1) and Nick Linberg (6-2) for a spot in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Gates was too strong for Jim Long, 7-4. Then Adam Sevada became the opponent in the final. After eight legs the score was still 4-4, but then Gates decided the match by taking three legs in a row.
Through the CDC Tour, the best Canadian player and best American dart player qualify for the World Darts Championship. David Cameron is currently the highest ranked player from Canada. Gates already started the ninth tournament of the CDC Tour as the best American dart player and thus managed to extend his lead over rival Stowe Buntz, who lost in the quarter-finals.
