Adrian Lewis has continued his resurgent start to the 2021 season with a superb victory over Gary Anderson to reach The
Masters Quarter-Finals.
Lewis won through 10-8 in the end with a 98.5 average, 50% on the doubles and five 180's as he continues to show some form of old on the Milton Keynes stage. Next up could be new World Champion, Gerwyn Price who faces Joe Cullen later
To begin, Lewis missed the bull for an early break but returned for a last dart double four opener after being given a second opportunity.
He kicked off the second leg with a 180 and surged into a 2-0 lead leaving 40 from 121 which he pinned. Anderson attempted to find his range with a 180 of his own and followed that up with a 96 checkout to go 2-1 down.
But again Lewis replied with some brilliant power scoring with a 180 and a 60 checkout to go 3-1 up with a 12 darter as his average went up to 108.
Anderson missed double 20 for a 64 checkout but Lewis couldn't find the second dart off treble 19 for a 146 and the former made it 3-2 at the first break.
A last dart double 10 off a 54 checkout saw Lewis return from the break to reopen his two leg gap at 4-2 up.
Anderson piled in a second maximum but Lewis followed immediately with one of his own. The former hit 122 to leave 40 off it but missed three darts to hold and Lewis punished on double 10.
A brilliant 127 checkout from Lewis raised a smile from Anderson as he went 6-2 up. He followed that up with a 112 to edge closer to the finishing line at 7-3 up.
Anderson returned and went six darts into a perfect leg and pinned double 20 to go 7-4 down. An 80 checkout made it back-to-back legs as he broke throw to go only two behind.
A hold of throw saw only a one leg deficit for Anderson at 7-6 down. Lewis stopped the rot of sorts to go 8-6 up with a hold.
He continued to turn the tide again with a 180 to begin Anderson's throw but the latter hit one himself. The latter missed a 117 checkout but Lewis made a mess of the 118 checkout and Anderson returned to hold.
But the legs started to run out and Lewis clean killed a 62 checkout to move one away. He was given the shot at two match darts but missed them at double 20 and Anderson went into the madhouse on double one to make it 9-8.
A 135 set up from Anderson left 75 with Lewis needing 156 which he couldn't pin but Anderson missed a dart to force a decider and Lewis pinned double 10 last dart in hand to claim the victory.
