Usually,
Michael van Gerwen is the out-and-out favourite for the PDC
World Darts Championship, but he has some competition with title sponsors, Paddy Power this year in
Luke Humphries.
After winning the World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts, the odds of Humphries drifted to 9/2 for him to be a joint favorite alongside the Green Machine. Many instead will find value in Gerwyn Price or Gary Anderson with some questioning the form of Michael van Gerwen who has flattered to deceive as of late as well as perhaps not fulfilling his favourite tag at Ally Pally in recent times.
That joint status was after the final, but he has since become out and out favourite at 7/2 with Gerwyn Price at 5/1, Michael Smith 8/1, Gary Anderson 11/1 and Rob Cross 14/1.
Peter Wright is 14/1, while Nathan Aspinall sits at 25/1. Perhaps the biggest surprise is Gian van Veen sitting at 40/1 ahead in the betting even of James Wade who was in supreme form in Wolverhampton and Masters champion, Chris Dobey.
