PDC Order of Merit: Luke Humphries nears top three after Grand Slam of Darts triumph as Rob Cross and Damon Heta also rise

Luke Humphries will add another large sum of prize money to the PDC Order of Merit. After winning the World Grand Prix (£120,000), 'Cool Hand Luke' took the title at the Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday night.
His resounding victory over Rob Cross (16-8) in the final saw Humphries collect the £150,000 top prize. He remains fourth in the rankings, but his gap to the top three Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright has shrunk considerably.

Wright is missing next weekend at the Players Championship Finals, meaning Humphries could then attack the third spot. Should Humphries also win in Minehead, he will go to the World Darts Championship as number three in the world. Meanwhile, he may also dream of the first spot in the world rankings. Should he become world champion in January, there is a good chance he will top the PDC Order of Merit after the World Darts Championship.
Losing finalist Cross has moved up to eighth place, while Damon Heta has moved into the top-10 after reaching the quarter-finals. Semi-finalist Stephen Bunting progressed three places and moved up to 21st. Josh Rock was allowed to climb up four spots after reaching the quarter-finals and is now 22nd in the world rankings.
Interestingly, Vincent van der Voort moved up three spots without playing himself at the Grand Slam of Darts. That is because Mervyn King, Ryan Joyce and Mensur Suljovic could not defend their prize money won two years ago because they were absent from Wolverhampton themselves.

- I completely agree with Vincent's comments on "whistlegate". It's great to have someone with Vincent's exprience address this issue, so hopefully clearer and stricter guidlelines can be given to referees, security and members of the crowd. No whistling during throws, and something like: whistlers evicted and fined a hefty sum.
