Luke Humphries follows in Phil Taylor's footsteps with rare performance at World Matchplay

Luke Humphries won the World Matchplay in extraordinary fashion. The world number one managed to throw an average of over one hundred in all his matches.

Humphries is only the second player ever to record a 100+ average in all of his five matches. 'Cool Hand Luke' started the tournament with an average of 108.78 in his match against Ricardo Pietreczko (10-4).

He then beat Stephen Bunting 11-7 thanks to an average of 102.34. In the quarterfinals against Dimitri van den Bergh (16-10), Humphries tapped an average of 101.21.

In the last four, Humphries faced James Wade. With an average of 100.64, Humphries won 17-10 over Wade in the semis. In the final won against Michael van Gerwen (18-15), Humphries pitched a 100.94 average. Humphries' tournament average finished at 101.80.

In the past, only Phil Taylor managed to throw a 100+ average in all his five matches at one World Matchplay. 'The Power' even managed this at three different editions (2010, 2013 and 2011).

Taylor recorded a tournament average of a whopping 106.3 in 2010. His highest match average during that tournament was 114.99, and his lowest 103.31. In 2013, the English darts legend had a tournament average of 105.8, while Taylor's tournament average in 2011 finished at 105.5.
