PDC Order of Merit: Van Gerwen loses second spot to Smith, Humphries lonely at the top and Wright loses top-10 spot

Luke Humphries solidified his first spot on the PDC Order of Merit yet again by winning the World Matchplay. 'Cool Hand Luke' defeated Michael van Gerwen 18-15 on Sunday night in the final of the World Matchplay.

As a result, the reigning world champion pocketed the top prize of £200,000 in prize money. Humphries has collected a staggering £1,650,750 in ranking prize money over the past 24 months, most of it in the past nine months.

In the coming months, Humphries could just become the first player ever to top the world rankings with more than two million pounds. The record still stands in the name of Van Gerwen. In February 2017, 'Mighty Mike' stood at £1,842,000 on the PDC Order of Merit.

Van Gerwen is currently third in the world rankings. He was passed by Michael Smith, who lost to the Dutchman in Blackpool in the semi-final match. The difference between Smith and Van Gerwen is more than a ton, while Humphries is almost six tons ahead of "Bullyboy.

Rob Cross is the new world number four. He passed Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price, who had to drop two spots. Damon Heta moved up two spots and can now call himself the world number nine. Ross Smith is close to a top-10 debut. 'Smudger' moved up to eleventh position after his quarterfinal finish at the World Matchplay, slightly behind Heta and number ten Dimitri van den Bergh.

Peter Wright has fallen out of the top ten after his disappointing World Matchplay. Since Wright reached the final of the World Darts Championship in 2014, 'Snakebite' has been consistently in the top-10 of the world rankings. That streak has come to an end after more than six years.

James Wade is on track to return to the global top-16 soon after his semi-final place in Blackpool. 'The Machine' began the World Matchplay as number 22 in the world rankings, but now finds himself back in eighteenth place.
