Luke Humphries survives real scare to end Beau Greaves run at the 2025 UK Open

Luke Humphries has survived a real scare against women's world champion Beau Greaves. After being forced to produce his very best, 'Cool Hand Luke' eventually prevailed 10-7 to keep his hopes alive at the 2025 UK Open.

Undoubtedly the most highly-anticipated tie of the 4th round, the world number one in both the women's and the men's game faced off. Greaves had lost just four legs total in her three matches so far in Minehead today, and the women's world champion started in style with a 126 on the bull. A 124 finish followed as Greaves doubled her advantage with a break of the Humphries throw. Humphries fought back with two straight legs of his own after that, but Greaves held her throw in leg 5 to head off stage narrowly in front 3-2.

Both Greaves and Humphries were averaging past the 100 mark, but it was the women's world champion who continued to hold the advantage in the scores, breaking the Humphries through in leg 6. After Greaves missed two darts at double 8 for a 5-2 lead though, a relieved Humphries pinned tops to get back to one behind, before leveling up moments later. As the last two legs of the session went with the darts, the players headed off stage locked together at 5-5.

Both had darts to winning each of the opening two legs in the 3rd session. On both occasions, it was Greaves that emerged the happier as well, punishing Humphries misses to get 7-5 clear. Humphries made no mistake on double 16 in the next leg though, to immediately break the throw back and get to within one. A few moments later, the contest was level once again.

Having clearly put those misses out of his mind, Humphries was beginning to purr now, and with a break of throw, the world number one moved in front for the first time in the contest at 8-7. After moving to within one of the match, Humphries initially missed his first two matchdarts. As Greaves was unable to punish though, the Englishman returned to seal the victory.
