Luke Littler has defeated Peter Wright 10-9, in a thriller on the main stage at the 2025 UK Open in Minehead, putting his name in the hat for the 5th round draw later this evening.
After a disappointing 2024 by his own lofty standards, Peter Wright has been showing signs of life in the early part of 2025. Luke Littler though, is arguably the man to beat in the world of darts today. In the opening session, the 18-year-old world champion looked to have the upper hand as he moved impressively into a 2-0 lead early on. As mentioned though, this version of Wright is a much-improved one and the Scot proved that to reel off the next three legs unanswered to head off stage 3-2 in the lead.

Littler came back fighting in the second session. 'The Nuke' responded in kind with three straight legs of his own to take control back at 5-3. Although 'Snakebite' then stopped the rot in the 9th leg, Wright couldn't find the bullseye for a match-leveling 161 checkout in the next leg, with Littler making his opponent pay the ultimate price too by ruthlessly cleaning up a 43 checkout to make it 6-4 in his favor.
Littler continued to put clear daylight between the two after the break, punishing a 'Snakebite' miscount to move three legs clear with another break of throw. A brilliant 104 checkout then saw Wright immediately break straight back though. Another ton-plus checkout followed for the two-time world champion getting him back to one behind. A few moments later, Wright leveled the contest in style, making it a hat-trick of 100+ finishes with a 116.
As Wright sat waiting on tops to move in front, it was then Littler's time for a big finish, popping in an ice-cold 100 in two darts to get back on top at 8-7. Thanks to a 96 checkout, Littler held throw to get to one leg away. His first matchdart came in the very next leg, but after Littler wired the bull for a 10-7 victory, Qright punished on double 18 to stay alive. Thanks to a duo of 180s, Wright then forced a decider with a 12-dart break of throw. In the decider, the Scot had the darts too, but it was Littler that got the job done, securing the 10-9 victory.
