Luke Littler closed the 2024 World Series season in style by winning Sunday night's
World Series of Darts Finals at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam. For "The Nuke," it was already his second major title of the season.
Littler was already the best player on the World Series circuit this season, allowing him to travel to Amsterdam as number one on the seedings list. The 17-year-old teenage sensation won the World Series tournaments in Bahrain and Gliwice earlier this year, and was also a losing finalist at the tournaments in Den Bosch and Wollongong.
At the World Series of Darts Finals, Ross Smith came closest to a win over Littler. The Englishman won 6-5 over Ross Smith in the first round. He then beat Raymond van Barneveld 6-4 for a spot in the quarterfinals. With a 10-7 win over Chris Dobey, Littler then qualified for the semifinals.
In the semifinal against Michael van Gerwen, Littler fell behind 2-4, but thanks to nine won legs in a row, the Englishman still won 11-4. Then in the final, Michael Smith was left defenseless 11-4. In every match, Littler threw an average of 100+, with his lowest average being 102.21 and his highest 107.95.
During the tournament, Littler played a total of 102 legs. Over these legs, he recorded a tournament average of 103.79. In addition, the reigning world youth champion had a finishing percentage of 40 percent (44/110).
It ultimately earned Littler two records. The Premier League champion became the youngest ever winner of the World Series of Darts Finals. In addition, he also improved the 180 record at this event. In five matches, Littler totaled 34 180 scores.
More major tournaments are coming up in the coming weeks for Littler. In the fall, majors such as the World Grand Prix, the European Darts Championship, the Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship will be played.
