Luke Littler, Gian van Veen and Beau Greaves progress to knockout stages with ease in PDC World Youth Championship

The fifteenth edition of the PDC World Youth Championship kicked off Monday in Wigan. Top favourites Luke Littler and Gian van Veen convincingly advanced to the last 64, as are outsiders Beau Greaves, Owen Bates and Cam Crabtree.
A total of 128 players were allowed to compete in the PDC World Youth Championship, the tournament for the best darters under the age of 24. Age-eligible Tour Card holders were invited, as well as winners of some qualifying tournaments and the best players from the PDC Development Tour.
The participants were divided into 32 pools of four players each. The top two players in each pool advanced to the knockout phase. Luke Littler, winner of the World Grand Prix Sunday night, left no doubt about who the big favourite for the junior world title is. Littler easily won over Jeffrey Keen (5-1), Alexander-Veigar Thorvaldsson (5-2) and Matthias Moors (5-2). Against Thorvaldsson, Littler even threw an average of 108.59.
His biggest challenger is Gian van Veen. The Dutchman lost to Littler in the 2023 Youth World Cup final and did become Youth World Champion in 2024 in Littler's absence after a blood-curdling final against Jurjen van der Velde. Van Veen pulverised Wessel Tempelaars (5-0) and Zac Prince (5-0) in the group stage, while also dealing with Ronan McDonagh (5-3).
Beau Greaves didn't run into any trouble either. The three-time women's world champion was too strong for Joseph Lynaugh (5-0), Noah Roeschlein (5-2) and Keanu van Velzen (5-2). Other familiar names such as Charlie Manby, Jenson Walker, Dylan Slevin, Liam Maendl-Lawrence, Keane Barry, Adam Gawlas, Owen Bates and Sebastian Bialecki are also competing for the junior world title.

- Oh fudge off. Who the hell decided Mardull was preferred choice. Just look as its idiotic face. What a talentless waste of space What a travesty when you compare what ITV had. He comes across as a jokey person but it's a class A piece of sheet, miserable as hell and completely full of himself. I don't know anyone who can say anything positive about this goof. - Absolutely disgraceful, really I've said many times that ITV coverage is superior to SKY and SKY know that. Jacqui was absolutely fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Emma from SKY is more interested in what to wear than learning about darts. Chris Mason is absolutely the best and greatest commentator on TV, even better than Alex Jacques on F1 and Alex is absolutely brilliant. It is criminal that Chris and Alan will probably never be on TV again, what an amazing waste of talent. Poor Ned, who is just as excellent and knowledgeable on darts as the Tour de France has lost both gigs this year. The whole ITV team from presentation, commentary, production the whole team will definitely be missed and I have enjoyed every minute of their coverage. Thank you so much. John Part is the ONLY decent and knowledgeable person on SKY. - Gurney is off form and will completely crack and have a meltdown as the crowd will be relentless, although I think Beau will beat him anyway. I also think Fallon will beat the Helium voiced Chisnall. Poor Gemma has a toughie Peter Wright is also completely off the boil but will probably squeeze past Lisa.
