Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Nathan Aspinall among absentees for Players Championship 5-6

Three Premier League players have chosen not to participate in Players Championship 5 & 6 on 18-19 March in Hildesheim, Germany, according to the publication of the entry lists for these tournaments.

Those three are World Champion Luke Humphries, World Matchplay winner Nathan Aspinall and the recent winner of the Belgian Darts Open Luke Littler. With the non-stop darting calendar at this time of year, it's somewhat understandable that the busiest players feel the need to take a break every now and then with the aforementioned trio choosing this as an optimal moment. Adrian Lewis en Christian Perez have not signed up either for the next two Players Championship events.

Humphries and Aspinall could afford this rest anyway, as they were already qualified for almost all the 2024 television tournaments. That was previously not the case for Littler. However, the 17-year-old Englishman won the Belgian Darts Open last weekend, securing participation in the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and the European Darts Championship. So 'The Nuke' does not directly need the prize money that can be earned next week to improve his ranking.
