Luke Littler has had a glistening debut season on the PDC Pro Tour. After bursting onto the scene at the last World Darts Championship, the teenage sensation has since earned more than £1 million in prize money. Littler success is also now seeing the 17-year-old receive recognition from outside the sport of darts.
Already one of the favourites to become the first darter to ever win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Littler is now into the final 3 of the shortlist for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. "It's been an amazing year and to be in the running for Young Sports Personality of the Year tops it off," says Littler in quotes collected by BBC Sport. "If I've brought more fans to darts, then that's all that matters to me."
Over the course of the year, Littler has taken ten PDC titles including the Premier League Darts, the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series of Darts Finals. 'The Nuke' has also hit a record-equalling four nine-dart finishes this year, en route to earning more than £1 million in prize money over the course of 2024 and rising to number 4 in the PDC Order of Merit, despite only having one year on the rolling two-year ranking system.
The remaining competition for Littler in terms of the award comes from 16-year-old Olympic bronze medal winning skateboarder Sky Brown and 18-year-old Para-swimmer, William Ellard who took three medals, including two golds at the Paris Olympics.
The winner will be announced live on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on Tuesday, 17 December, with viewers in the UK able to watch the action and see if Littler claims a famous BBC Sports Personality of the Year and BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year double on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 19:00 GMT.
