Luke Littler is into back-to-back ranking major finals and could be walking away with a similar double header to potential final opponent Luke Humphries at the
Players Championship Finals.
Littler sealed it 11-9 pushed to the end by Smith but it was very much about short sharp bursts from the teenager in order to keep 'Smudger's revival from an initial deficit at bay. He averaged 104 in victory and could now face his rival in the final. It will either be Humphries or Van Duijvenbode that await.
Littler was incredible in the early going with sensational checkouts of 158, 107 and 150 in the opening three legs as he gained immediate control. Smith finally got off the mark but ironically lifted his arms aloft after being on the receiving end of a barrage.
Littler added a 124 checkout on the bull from there but Smith reeled off four consecutive legs to throw himself on level pegging at 5-5. From 6-5 down though, Littler found another burst. He reeled off four consecutive legs as he found another gear. He was averaging 104 with seven 180's and 9/13 on the outer ring.
Littler missed a dart for 10-6 and Smith royally punished him hitting 72 on the bull for 9-7 down and a break of throw. Smith hit a 171 only for Littler to hit 88 and quell his scoring charge and make it 10-7.
Littler missed 170 for the match but Smith missed two from 81 and the 17-year-old sensation got more match darts only to spurn them. Smith last dart in hand hit double nine to break again.
Littler missed five more for the match and Smith held for 10-9. A scoring barrage saw Littler hit 93 for the match as Smith couldn't match him to break again.
