Masterful Michael van Gerwen makes light work of Chris Dobey, into seventh PDC World Darts Championship final

Michael van Gerwen has sent out a statement to either Luke Littler or Stephen Bunting who play in the second semi-final of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship on Thursday night.

Van Gerwen hammered Chris Dobey 6-1 with a 98 average, eight 180's and a high checkout of 158 with the demolition job securing him a spot in what is his seventh World Championship final. Will he finally get the elusive number four?

The three-time World Champion opened up with a 3-1 opening set with two 180's and a 103 average as he set his stall out early. But he didn't need to in the second set as Dobey squandered three darts at doubles in the deciding leg and MVG hit 74 to double his lead. It was already trouble for Dobey.

Dobey finally got on the board taking it the next without reply to halve the deficit with a 170 checkout. He took a clean sweep and looked to be heading into the ascendancy.

But back came MVG. He struck back to race through the fourth set in three consecutive legs and restored a two-leg cushion. He'd pinned four 180's and 53% on the doubles.

It continued to be a very much Dobey looked better and better but ran out of road at the key moments. Van Gerwen made the 3-1 lead into 4-1 as he went two away from victory. Dobey did not get near 146 and MVG hit double 10 to go off the stage the happier of the two.

That feeling continued with a brutal moment for Dobey. He missed double five for an early break in set six and Van Gerwen punished to the hilt with a 158 checkout. He went on to seal the set in a decider pinning a 13-darter to continue the procession.

He went one away in the next set hitting 82 to break with Dobey only able to pressure off 158 but did not get the opportunity to hit it like MVG did or even get a shot to hold throw as Van Gerwen was throwing for the win.

He hit 180 to leave 41 but missed two darts to seal it only to return anyway with Dobey not getting anywhere near 164.
