Despite losing his Tour Card at the end of 2022, Max Hopp is still one of the figureheads of German darts. While fans and pundits regularly discuss a possible return of the 28-year-old to the PDC Pro Tour, Hopp commented on his long-term career plans in an Instagram post by Pluto TV
"Of course I prefer to play by myself, but the league never sleeps. I don't think darts has ever been as attractive as it is now," Hopp said of the level of the professional tour. "We have many players at a similar level, which is also reflected in the tournament winners, who are very diverse. There is hardly any player who really dominates this sport."
Since Hopp can mostly be seen as a commentator on Sport1 and DAZN at this stage of his career, the question arises whether the former junior world champion is already making plans for his career after retirement. "The ultimate goal is to compete myself, but I think you can also see that I really enjoy my work as a commentator. But first and foremost, I want to be an active athlete and then maybe at some point become a commentator."
'The Maximiser' confirmed these claims a few days ago at the Champs of Darts fair in Cologne. There, Hopp triumphed 3-2 against world champion Luke Humphries and proved his skills with a 120 checkout to win the match.
