Ryan Joyce continues to impress at the 2024
World Grand Prix. 'Relentless' defeated
Rob Cross 3-2 in the quarterfinals and is now set to face defending champion
Luke Humphries in the semifinals.
Joyce is in the semifinals of the double-in double-out major for the first time in his career. "The match was topsy-turvy and every time I felt like I got ahead, Rob would throw a great leg. He's a class player," Joyce said afterwards in his post-match
press conference. "I always felt like this is the competition for me. I've played darts for so many years and I don't feel under pressure."
Cross, however, tried everything to still win against Joyce. "Rob told me when we were chatting, about his record. Yeah, maybe it was an attempt at mind games, but things like that go over my head," says Joyce. "I don't tend to concentrate on things like that."
As mentioned, in the semifinals, Joyce will take now take on the defending champion in Leicester Luke Humphries, the man also who kept him out of the final of the Players Championship Finals last year. "Luke is not just a good player, he's maybe a generational player - but over this format I feel I can equal him and I'm going to try my best," Joyce concludes.
